Chinese on Courtesy Visit

A delegation from the Communist Party of China paid a courtesy call on President Hifikepunye Pohamba at State House 5th July, 2006 to strengthen existing relations between Namibia and China.
The seven-member Chinese delegation on a four-day visit to Namibia also met members of the Swapo Party leadership, namely Swapo Party Secretary Dr Ngarikutuke Tjiriange, the Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources Dr Abraham Iyambo, Minister of Works, Transport and Communication Joel Kapaanda, Ambassador Monica Nashandi and Chief of Protocol Nangula Ithete.
During the discussions, President Pohamba welcomed the Chinese delegation, saying their arrival is a sign of the good relations that exist between the two countries.
Prior to this visit, President Pohamba had the opportunity to visit the People's Republic of China where he conducted discussions with high-ranking government officials.
Last month, Founding. Father of the Nation Dr Sam Nujoma was also in the Chinese capital Beijing.
The Swapo Party received support from the Communist Party of China and its government before independence.
Since then, relations between the two states and political leadership have been close and this has enhanced business and diplomatic ties between the two countries.
Speaking to the media after their meeting with the Head of State, Deputy Head of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China Ma Wenpu said the discussions between the Swapo Party and the Communist Party leadership were fruitful.
He added that the other objective of the visit is for both ruling parties to share experiences and exchange views in various fields.
Prior to their departure on Friday, the delegation is expected to pay a courtesy call on Dr Nujoma.to identify specific developmental goals as well as plans to enhance economic growth and reduce poverty in the region.
