Inflation slows to 9.1% in June
(Namibia Economist, 17 July -23 July 2009)

The annual inflation rate slowed to 9.1% in June from 9.6% in May and 10.3% in June last year, the Central Bureau of Statistics said.

The monthly inflation rate for June was estimated at 0.4%, the same percentage points recorded in May.

The All-Item Index for June increased by 0.7 percentage points up from 164.2 in May 2009 to 164.9.

The index for Food and Non Alcoholic Beverages for June increased to 192.5, a monthly increase of 0.7 percentage points from the 191.8 recorded in May 2009. This increase was due to increases recorded in the subgroups of Bread and cereals (3.5%), Milk, cheese an eggs (1.3%), Oils and fats as well as food products (1.2%), Mineral waters, soft drinks and juices (0.8%), food (0.4%) as well as Non-alcoholic beverages (0.3%).

The annual inflation rates for the major groups comprising the NCPI were Food and non-alcoholic Beverages (11.5%), Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (8.2%) and Transport (4.1%).
