April inflation slows to 10%

The annual inflation rate slowed to 10% in April from 11.2% in March following decreases in the housing, water, electricity, gas, fuel and household equipment components of the inflation basket, said the Central Bureau of Statis¬tics.
The rate was 9.3% in April last year.
“The monthly inflation rate for April 2009 was estimated at 0.6%, a decrease of 0.1 percentage points over the March 2009 rate of 0.7%. This decrease resulted from monthly decreases recorded in the groups housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, as well as furnishings, household equipment and routine maintenance,” the bureau said in an email statement.
The All-Items Index for April increased by a percentage point from 162.6 in March 2009 to 163.5.
The index for Food and Non Alcoholic Beverages for April 2009 increased to 190.9, a monthly increase of 0.3 percentage points from 190.6 recorrded in March 2009.
